Alternative Lodging at Powderhorn
Our Big Idea
Tiny Homes are comfortable, fully equipped, sustainable accommodations conveniently nestled on the mountain. Efficiently designed, each unit sleeps four to eight and has a full bath, plus its own kitchen, kitchenette, or microwave so you can relax with a hearty meal in your own great room, on your deck, or gather with others at the cozy firepit to delight in sharing adventures of the day. The current phase in Powderhorn’s alternative lodging plan is the Tiny Homes Village: six units available to rent only, located right below our main Flat-Top Flyer chairlift. The next phase is the development of a larger Tiny Home community, with many future units available to rent or own!
What’s so Grand about Powderhorn?
Our location on the world’s largest flat-topped mountain gives the resort unmistakable terrain, weather, and community. If you haven’t visited before, introduce yourself to a member of our staff, or strike up a conversation on the chairlift ride—everyone’s got a reason why Powderhorn is special.
Not Your Ordinary Mountain
The westernmost resort in Colorado, Powderhorn features over 1600 acres of beautiful alpine terrain, surrounded by distinct high-desert cliffs and canyons. Explore the Grand Mesa National Forest’s meadows and lakes in the summer, and her aspen & pine glades, nordic & alpine trails, and volcanic boulder fields in the winter!
Average 250 inches
The Grand Mesa stands 6000′ above the surrounding valley. Storm cells converge here from the north and southwest, creating sudden thunderstorms in the summer and laying down 250 inches of snowfall on average each winter. Seasons are extended thanks to our gravity-fed snowmaking, one of the most efficient systems in the industry.
5 Ski Lifts: Beginner to Advanced
Powderhorn’s beginner zone features two surface lifts and the Easy Rider low-speed double chairlift. Our two high-speed quad chairlifts, the Flat-Top Flyer and new Wild West Express, climb to 9,850 feet above sea level before the mountain flattens out, and offer intermediate and advanced trails—descending 1,650 vertical feet to the Base Lodge.
Big Mesa, Small Community
Many of the folks you’ll encounter at Powderhorn have been here for years: living, working, and riding together with generations of friends and family. Escape from the big-resort crowds and embrace our laid-back style of skiing. Whether you’re a family, a crew, a couple, or rocking solo, we’ve got lots of locals that are just like you. Don’t be a stranger!

A Tiny Testimonial
“WE HAD AN AMAZING TIME… here at the tiny home village. It was exactly what we hoped it would be. The boys had a great time skiing and joining us by the fire. We loved that there was wood provided and the chairs were amazing for enjoying a nice quiet afternoon.”

“After our first stay at the Tiny Home my husband and I wanted to bring our kids up too. We had a blast! The kids loved the loft bed, we love the location and the kitchen with a table! They got so cold after the sun went down but we were right there so they got in warm jammies while I made cocoa. After the kids went to sleep we stayed up to play a game. In a hotel you don’t have that kind of space. We could have the lights on, the table to play on and our own drinks while they slept upstairs. The arrangement was dreamy.”

Tiny Dining
We strongly recommend you pack food and drinks for your Tiny Home stay. All Tiny Homes include a refrigerator, microwave, sink, cooktop, cooking pots and utensils, dishes, and a drip coffee maker. Throughout your stay, you’ll have a convenient and cozy home base, right next to the bottom of the main chairlift. Grocery stores are 45 minutes away in Palisade and Grand Junction, and some food and drinks are available at the Mesa Bloom Market in a pinch. Powderhorn’s restaurant and café have limited hours depending on the operating season, and the nearest dinner options are the Wagon Wheel and BoonLava restaurants, located seven miles down the highway in the town of Mesa.
