There are great things ahead at Powderhorn Mountain Resort

Powderhorn owners Andy Daly and Ken, Tom, and John Gart of The Gart Companies are strengthening their commitment to the independently owned resort’s success by bringing in ZOMA Capital of Denver as an investment partner and by leasing the resort operations to Pacific Group Resorts Inc. (PRGI) from Park City, Utah.  The new partnerships will:

        1) Further strengthen Powderhorn’s position as a regional leader in outdoor recreation
        2) Continue to expand affordable access to winter recreation through the Mission:                              Affordable Program
        3) Develop additional summer activities
        4) Support the resort’s overall long-term success.

PGRI will draw on their company’s long-time ski industry success and marketing strategies such as the wildly popular Mission: Affordable program Powderhorn licensed from PGRI this past year.  The Mission: Affordable program has led to a doubling of Powderhorn’s season pass holders and has increased overall access to affordable skiing in the region. PGRI started the Mission: Affordable program at Ragged Mountain in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and has rolled out various aspects of the program at its other resorts – Wisp Resort in the Appalachian Mountains of Maryland, Wintergreen Resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, and Mount Washington Alpine Resort in the Beaufort Mountains on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada.

Powderhorn’s owners have undertaken extensive capital improvement projects since purchasing the resort in 2011 including the installation of a high-speed chairlift, construction of mountain biking trails, and making improvements to the snowmaking infrastructure. To augment these investments, the Gart Family and ZOMA Capital have committed further capital to enhance the resort’s summer and winter experience. Look for additional announcements over the course of this winter about the specific capital improvements we have planned.

Question you may have regarding the future of Powderhorn:

Q: Will anything change with my 2018/2019 winter season pass?

A: The only changes you will see are increased pass holder benefits! Current Winter Powderhorn Season pass holders will now have access to six free days at each PGRI resort: Ragged Mountain in New Hampshire, Wisp Resort in Maryland, Wintergreen Resort in Virginia, and Mount Washington Alpine Resort in British Columbia, Canada.

Q: Will lift tickets prices go up?

A: For the 2018/2019 winter season, lift ticket prices will remain the same as the 2017/2018 winter season.

Q: What investments and improvements are planning?

A: The exact details of improvements and capital investment will be announced in the coming months as plans are finalized. Check this website over the course of the winter for further information.

Q: How does this effect Summer Operations?

A: Powderhorn will begin construction on new mountain biking trails. There will be an intermediate (blue) trail that will be the perfect step up for riders who have mastered Mutton Buster. In addition, work will begin on a new green trail with a skills learning area and a connector trail to link up with the Palisade Plunge.

Q: What isn’t going to change?

A: Powderhorn’s long time commitment to our local families and the Grand Valley Community will remain unchanged.
