A Multi-Discipline Program

Because YETI is level specific and not discipline specific it is in a unique position to have one coach teaching a multi-discipline class.  There are a few things that make a multi-discipline class possible and beneficial:
  • Most of our coaches are currently Snowboard & Alpine certified through AASI/ PSIA and some are even certified in all three disciplines.
  • At higher levels of riding, skiing, and telemark; movement concepts become very similar and all three disciplines share basic skills.
  • The personal barriers segregating disciplines in the past are all but non-existent today, and we frequently see mixed discipline groups riding and skiing together.  This would allow those groups to stay together.
  • Multi-discipline classes will also offer students an opportunity to excel their skills in the other disciplines they may already possess.

Advanced Training in Freestyle & Free-Mountain

Powderhorn has produced many great riders and skiers.  Three of our snowboard instructors have gone on to join the Educational Staff at AASI. Calvin Davenport has gone on to be a certified guide at Silverton Mt. Micah Hoogeveen and Dylan Garner have both become freestyle pros and pioneers in their disciplines. And Powderhorn is not done producing. Our existing staff contains many certified individuals, including some not fore-mentioned, in our Terrain Parks, Patrol and Ski and Ride Center.

This allows us to offer students training in areas such as:

  • Advanced Park (Slopestyle) and Boarder/ Skier Cross (BSX)
  • Mountain etiquette. Students will learn the various codes of the mountain, their relevance, and how to set an example effectively.
  • Video analysis. Shot in the morning and reviewed during lunch, students will have the opportunity to make improvements in the afternoon.
  • Competition preparation and strategy. They will learn how to plan tricks for their run or locate primary and secondary lines in a race.  As well as mental tools to safely conqueror our fears.
  • Equipment maintenance. Participants learn how to sharpen edges, wax their base, and fill core shots to get the most out of their equipment.
  • Back and side country. Using our own equipment, guest coaches and existing staff we will train students in the art of Out-of-Bounds navigation. This includes multiple morning sessions covering topics such as beacon training, forecasting/ prediction, how to dig a pit and what it will tell you, recovery and various skills needed to keep explorers safe from those situations. The afternoons are spent applying these techniques first inbounds and then out.
