MESA, Colo. (March 4, 2015) –  Powderhorn Mountain Resort (PMR) will provide scholarships for thirty local children to learn to ski on their first Powderhorn Give Back Day, Friday, March 6th.

PMR has teamed up with Rocky Mountain Health Foundation to receive tax deductible donations to provide scholarships for  lower income children from around the Grand Valley to learn to ski or snowboard in PMR’s Powderhorn Adventure Snowsports Training Program (PHAST). This is the first year of the scholarship program. PHAST Scholarship recipients have been selected from the We Can! Mesa County program and HopeWest Kids.

“We are so excited about this great opportunity to really get involved with the families of our community. We really have a passion for the mountains and outdoor recreation and we want to be able to share that with the children of the Grand Valley. We have a dream that every child will get to experience the opportunity to try skiing or snowboarding, and today marks the first step towards accomplishing that vision. It is so hard to not fall in love with the mountains, once you’ve experienced them, and that’s what we hope to give these kids- a love of outdoor recreation, the mountains, their communities and more,” said Dusti Reimer, marketing manager for the resort.

The PHAST program entails a full-day ski or snowboard lesson, lift ticket and rental equipment. Helmets for the PHAST program have been sponsored by St. Mary’s Hospital and Rocky Mountain Orthopaedic Associates.

The PHAST program is widely used by the Western Slope school districts, for being an affordable program for youth to ski or snowboard. The program is open to all schools and groups with ten or more students.

If you are interested in sponsoring a PHAST child, you can send in your tax deductible donation to: Rocky Mountain Health Foundation Donations, Project Code: Powderhorn, P.O. BOX 10600, Grand Junction, CO 81502. (Please denote on the check POWDERHORN, also.)

For more information regarding PMR’s PHAST program, please contact the Ski and Ride Center at 970.268.5700 ext. 2080, or visit our website at

Lack of Natural Snowfall and Warm Weather Hinders Opening Day

MESA, Colo. (December 9, 2014) – Due to minimal natural snowfall and warmer than average temperatures, Powderhorn Mountain Resort has postponed its planned opening date of December 11, 2014, until further notice.

“Mother nature has only provided the resort with 12 inches of natural snowfall and warmer night time temperatures, which has limited our snowmaking capabilities. We do have snow in the forecast for this weekend and into next week with an added mix of cooler temperatures,” states Dave Smith, Powderhorn’s marketing manager. “We are very anxious to have the resort open and are on a day-by-day basis, meaning once we receive sufficient snowfall we will open for the season.”

Powderhorn season pass holders who are ready to hit the slopes can still use their pass with Powderhorn’s Partner Resorts.

The Powderhorn season pass offers three free ski days at Durango Mountain Resort, Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort, Eagle Point Resort, Sipapu Resort and Pajarito.

Powderhorn season pass holders also receive 50% off lift tickets at Crested Butte Mountain Resort, Monarch Mountain and Sunlight Mountain Resort.

For more information regarding season pass benefits with other resorts, and local retailers, please visit our website at for the full list and details.

Season pass holders who have yet to pick-up their pass for the season can do so at the Ale House Opening Party, Wednesday, December 10, from 4-8 pm.

The Powderhorn Ticket Office will also be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM for pass pick up.

MESA, Colo. (August 27, 2014) – Powderhorn Mountain Resort (PMR) is excited to announce the launch of season pass sales and new learn to ski and ride products, August 29 - 31, 2014, at the Epic Rides/Grand Junction Off-Road races.

This year, PMR’s learn to ski and ride program has been changed to accommodate a wide variety of ages. For $149, any skier from ages five years old and up, will be allowed to take three full-day lessons- including a lift ticket and equipment rental, during any three days throughout the season. After completion of the program, the graduate of the program will be awarded a Graduate Card that allows 50% off any future lessons, lift tickets and equipment rental for the remainder of the season. Snowboard lessons will be offered starting for ages seven years old and up, for the same price of $149 and includes the same graduate incentives.

“We are very excited about the coming winter. We have changed a lot of the programs and prices to encourage first time skiers and snowboarders to come up and give the sport a try,” states Dave Smith, PMR’s marketing manager. “The updated learn to ski and ride program is a great gift to give family and friends for the upcoming holiday season. We’ve also updated our mountain partnerships for our season pass holders, so pass holders can enjoy discounts at other resorts, but also with local businesses around town.”
