MESA, Colo. (November 3, 2015) – Powderhorn Mountain Resort (PMR) will begin installing the new chairs on the Flat Top Flyer as early as Friday this week and will start snowing making for the 2015-16 ski season Wednesday night.

Cable splicing for the Flat Top Flyer took place this past week on the new lift and now the newly constructed chairs are ready to be installed.

After the installation of all the chairs for the Flat Top Flyer, load testing by Leitner-Poma will begin.

“Load testing is essentially the final part before we’re certified to let customers ride on the new Flat Top Flyer. Leitner-Poma has done a great job this summer in the construction and installation of our new high speed quad and we’re on time with construction completion and on budget,” says Sam Williams, general manager for PMR.

In addition to the chairs and load testing, PMR has also tested the snow making system earlier this week in preparation for snowmaking operations. With part of the $5 million capital improvements being an almost double expansion of snow making at the resort, the temperatures have are now cooperating enough to enable PMR to start making snow to build a base quicker.

“With being able to make snow, we’re going to be able to establish a base earlier.  In order to get the slopes open we need at a least a 24 inch base. With cooperating temperatures, upgraded snow guns and expanded snow making coverage, we’re going to be able to get a lot more terrain covered than anyone at Powderhorn has ever seen before,” said Dave Smith, slope operations manager at PMR.

PMR is currently scheduled to open on December 17th.

PMR will be at the Powderhorn Ski Patrol Ski Swap on Nov. 6-7, at Colorado Mesa University selling season passes. Powderhorn season passes will be discounted up to $50, if you purchase before November 8.
