POWDERHORN MOUTAIN RESORT INTRODUCES TEAM YETI FOR THE 2013-2014 WINTER SEASON
Powderhorn’s new snowsports team provides young athletes with a well rounded knowledge of safety, mountain skills, and backcountry awareness

MESA, Colo. (October 8, 2013) – New for the 2013-2014 winter season, Powderhorn Mountain resort introduces Team YETI. The YETI program is a multi-week series for athletes, ages 9 to 15, seeking specialized level coaching in advanced training areas such as, backcountry awareness, boarder and skier cross, competition preparation and strategy, mountain etiquette and slope style.

Team YETI curriculum includes a variety of coaching techniques. During sessions, video analysis is shot in the morning and reviewed during break, allowing students the opportunity to make improvements in the afternoon.

Competition preparation and strategy is a main focus for Team YETI. Athletes will learn how to plan tricks for their run or locate primary and secondary lines in competition. Coaches will help each athlete develop mental tools to safely conqueror obstacles.

Team YETI also will focus on mountain etiquette and equipment maintenance. Athletes will learn the codes of the mountain, their relevance, and how to set an example effectively. They’ll also learn how to sharpen edges, wax their base, and fill core shots to get the most out of their equipment.

“We are hoping to take a specific group of youth from Powderhorn and the surrounding area, who are seeking those well rounded multidimensional mountain skills, and show them a new side and style of learning,” said Powderhorn Ski and Ride Center Manager Luke Martin. “It’s not so much a ski or ride lesson, but more of a team-building lesson along with a really great adventure. We have hand selected our coaches for Team YETI and we think the kids will be thrilled.”

Team YETI is designed for young skiers and riders who want to learn advanced, multidisciplinary skills from advanced-level coaches. Team YETI is a four-week series, offered January through March, on Saturdays and Sundays. Cost for Team YETI at the early season rate (before Nov. 2, 2013) is $199. Please visit www.powderhorn.com for a list of regular season rates and details on Team YETI.
