POWDERHORN REDUCES MIDWEEK OPERATING DAYS AWAITING ADDITIONAL NATURAL SNOWFALL

MESA, COLO., JANUARY 3rd, 2018 – As the drought continues in the Grand Valley, Powderhorn Mountain Resort will temporarily reduce the resort’s number of operating days. The resort will close Mondays through Wednesdays beginning January 8th until further snowfall allows for opening additional terrain. The resort will, however, be open on Monday, January 15th for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. When snow does arrive, Powderhorn plans to return to a regular seven day a week schedule.

“A reduction in operating days is a temporary measure to get through the remainder of this dry spell; Powderhorn will be back to a normal winter operating schedule as soon as snow allows,” said Sam Williams General Manager at Powderhorn. “Until then, we will continue to utilize our snowmaking system at full capacity and maintain the quality of terrain we currently have open.”

Despite an unseasonably warm and dry early winter, Powderhorn opened two lifts on December 23rd with limited terrain. The resort will continue to maximize snowmaking efforts and will operate two lifts, Easy Rider and the Magic Carpet Thursday through Sunday. The open lifts service three runs and a terrain park. Powderhorn is offering special prices on day tickets while terrain is limited with $25 adult tickets and $12 tickets for kids 12 and under.

“The open runs are skiing great. Families, groups, and people learning to ski or snowboard are still having a wonderful time on the mountain” said Ryan Robinson Marketing and Sales Manager at Powderhorn. “We’ve seen incredible support from our customers, they understand that we’ve opened every inch of terrain we can with man-made snow and natural snowfall is just coming a little later this year.”
