Powderhorn Racing Club at Telluride 2/9-2/10

The Powderhorn Racing Club had an excellent showing in the snowy slalom races at Telluride during the weekend of February 9-10 against the top racers in the Rocky Mountain Division. Birgit Morris (U14) led the way for the girls with a dominating first-place sweep of all four races in the field of 62 racers. Birgit hopes to carry this momentum into the U14 Prater Cup Championships in Crested Butte on February 22-24. Maddy Pill-Kastens had her best slalom race to date, finishing 12th in her age division and 22nd overall. Rachel Meleski also finished 16th in her age bracket and 33 overall. In the U12 division, Kate Hayde led the way with a 9th place finish in her age bracket, and 23rd overall. She was followed by Lucy Foley who finished 17th in her age bracket (35th overall) and Hannah Carlson who finished 21st in her age bracket and 42nd overall.

The PRC boys also had a great weekend competing against 94 racers from around the region. For the U14 boys, Peter Carlson finished 10th in his age bracket and 14th overall. Matthew Meyers had a 12th place finish in his division, and 20th overall. In a very large U12 category, Joshua Meyers finished 19th in his age class, and 42nd overall. Aidan Padyk followed up with a 23rd place finish in his bracket, and 49th overall. Ryan Foley participated in his first USSA race finishing 29 in his age bracket and 75th overall. The U10 boys were led by Noah Mathwig who had two top 10 finishes in his age bracket (8, 10) and finished 51st overall. Luke Meyers finished 13th in his age bracket and 58th overall.

Once again, congratulations to all the racers, the parents and the coaches, for a job well done. The U14 racers will be competing in the U14 Prater Cup Junior Championships Qualifier in Crested Butte on February 22-24. The U12/U10 racers will next compete in the U12/U10 Championships at Powderhorn Mountain Resort on March 9-10.
