Lack of Natural Snowfall and Warm Weather Hinders Opening Day

MESA, Colo. (December 9, 2014) – Due to minimal natural snowfall and warmer than average temperatures, Powderhorn Mountain Resort has postponed its planned opening date of December 11, 2014, until further notice.

“Mother nature has only provided the resort with 12 inches of natural snowfall and warmer night time temperatures, which has limited our snowmaking capabilities. We do have snow in the forecast for this weekend and into next week with an added mix of cooler temperatures,” states Dave Smith, Powderhorn’s marketing manager. “We are very anxious to have the resort open and are on a day-by-day basis, meaning once we receive sufficient snowfall we will open for the season.”

Powderhorn season pass holders who are ready to hit the slopes can still use their pass with Powderhorn’s Partner Resorts.

The Powderhorn season pass offers three free ski days at Durango Mountain Resort, Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort, Eagle Point Resort, Sipapu Resort and Pajarito.

Powderhorn season pass holders also receive 50% off lift tickets at Crested Butte Mountain Resort, Monarch Mountain and Sunlight Mountain Resort.

For more information regarding season pass benefits with other resorts, and local retailers, please visit our website at for the full list and details.

Season pass holders who have yet to pick-up their pass for the season can do so at the Ale House Opening Party, Wednesday, December 10, from 4-8 pm.

The Powderhorn Ticket Office will also be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM for pass pick up.
