At Powderhorn Mountain Resort, we care about our environment, locally and globally. Every part of our operation is designed to be as environmentally-friendly as possible.

Here are some examples of what we do, to turn our green words into real action. Individually, each step is important. Consistently taken together over time, our environmental policy has made Powderhorn one of the most responsible environmental stewards in Mesa County.
  • Recycle as many products as possible, including glass, paper, cardboard, aluminum, batteries, printer cartridges, and electronics.
  • Collect garbage and recyclables in compostable trash liners.
  • Conserve heat and electricity in the base lodge by installing energy saving boilers that run at 95% efficiency and reduce our propane consumption by approximately 15%.
  • Use solar power for electricity in the West End Ski Patrol hut.
  • Create terrain park features from aspen deadfall.
  • Promote water conservation through the use of low flow fixtures.
  • Increase fuel efficiency in vehicle and equipment fleet by minimizing unnecessary idle times.
In addition to taking these on-site measures, Powderhorn participates in the Keep Winter Cool initiative with the National Ski Areas Association.
